Hockey for Heroes Tournament Raises Money for Veterans

Since 2014, Nicholas Tagarelli has worked as security director for Navillus Health in Bridgewater, New Jersey. When not in the office, Nicholas Tagarelli enjoys playing hockey, participates in charitable hockey games, and contributes to Heroes of Hockey.

Sponsored by the nonprofit Navy Youth Hockey Association, Hockey for Heroes honors and celebrates American veterans. This 24-hour hockey tournament, scheduled for March 11 and 12, 2016, at the USNA McMullen Ice Arena in Annapolis, Maryland, features one-hour exhibition games played around the clock. In 2015, the tournament raised more than $122,000 for three organizations, including USA Warriors Ice Hockey, the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP), and Disabled American Veterans (DAV).

The USA Warriors Ice Hockey program organizes and administers ice hockey games as a recreational, educational, and therapeutic service for disabled veterans. WWP helps injured post-9/11 veterans and provides programs and services to meet their needs. DAV seeks to improve and empower veterans to lead high-quality lives.

The NTSB’s Role in Aviation Safety and Security

A security professional, Nicholas Tagarelli brings more than three decades of law enforcement experience to his role as security director of Navillus Health. Nicholas Tagarelli possesses expertise in aviation security and has worked alongside the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) to examine aircraft fires and crashes.

Investigating approximately 2,000 aviation incidents each year, the NTSB is a separate entity from the Department of Transportation. It deploys a team of specialists regularly to assess flight operations, plane systems, air traffic control procedures, and human performance, among other factors contributing to flight safety.

The board also works with other agencies to investigate more severe cases with suspected criminal activity. For example, events such as the September 11th attacks and Pacific Southwest Airlines crash in San Luis Obispo, California, require outside support, as the NTSB does not handle criminal cases. Instead, the organization offers technical support and surrenders its lead status on transportation accidents allegedly caused by intentional criminal acts at the request to the Attorney General, who must consult the chairman of the safety board.

Center Jarret Stoll Joins the New York Rangers

The security director at Navillus Health, Nicholas Tagarelli enjoys ice hockey. Currently training to become a Level 1 USA ice hockey official, Nicholas Tagarelli follows the New York Rangers.

Following the 2014-2015 NHL season, L.A. Kings center Jarret Stoll became an unrestricted free agent. In August, the New York Rangers announced that it signed the athlete. The undisclosed contract potentially consisted of a one-year deal valued at $800,000, according to Sports Illustrated.

Jarret Stoll and the Kings missed the playoffs last season. However, he participated in 73 regular-season games, scoring six goals and 11 assists. In total, Stoll has played 792 games throughout his 12-year career. The 33-year-old has scored 140 goals, recorded 239 assists, and played in 93 postseason games. His achievements include two Stanley Cup wins with the Kings and a faceoff success rate of 55.4 percent. His strength in faceoff will serve the Rangers well, since the team has struggled in that area the past few years.

Steps to Counter Vulnerabilities in Airport Security Screening

Nicholas Tagarelli is presently the security director of Navillus Health. Nicholas Tagarelli also served for a long time with the New Jersey Police Department and the Port Authority of New York and has extensive experience in airport security and terrorism intelligence.

Many air travelers complain about long waits at airport security checkpoints, but the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has limited options, considering renewed threats of terrorism and recent reports of shortcomings in airport screening. ABC News brought to light an inspector general's report in which unnamed officials noted that undercover agents had successfully carried mock weapons and explosives through TSA checkpoints in 67 out of 70 attempts. These vulnerabilities were identified by the Red Team, which has played a major role in assessing the effectiveness of screening at airports throughout the United States.

In response, the Department of Homeland Security announced in June 2015 that efforts were being taken to reduce such vulnerabilities through intensive training and coordinated equipment checks. In addition, random covert testing will be introduced as a way of ensuring that security practices are being consistently followed.

Some Essential Ingredients for Italian Cooking

The security director at Navillus Health, Nicholas Tagarelli previously served the Port Authority of New York and the New Jersey Police Department for over three decades. In his leisure time, Nicholas Tagarelli enjoys cooking Italian food.

Typically, Italian food requires fresh produce and other seasonal ingredients, which make meals taste better and provide better nutrition. For instance fresh basil can add flavor to a pizza or pasta, and the herb serves as a main ingredient for fresh pesto sauce. Fresh tomatoes serve as the core ingredient for many red sauces.

Some prepared ingredients used for Italian cooking include olive oil, prosciutto, and cheeses. Each oil has its own subtle but distinctive taste and olive oil gives the flavor recognizable in food from Italy. A popular meat in Italy, prosciutto requires a lengthy curing and drying process that results in a tender more flavorful meat that can be sliced thinly. Italian cheeses range from mozzarella to the regionally-crafted Parmigiano-Reggiano made only around Parma and crafted according to strict guidelines.
